Whether you are a good student who simply wants to be better or you are beginning to experience some difficulty in your studies, this group may be for you. When a previously successful undergraduate student suddenly does not perform up to expectations or experiences problems in medical, graduate/professional school, it can be confusing and frustrating. Often, bright students begin to struggle due not to a lack of ability, but to a failure in having learned good academic study skills. Sometimes even passing objective tests can depend partially on your test-taking strategy or level of anxiety. You don't have to wait until you experience problems; first year students and even those who are considering returning to school are welcome to join us. It is never too late to learn and use good study skills. Anxiety can be managed. Join us in this third round of group for 2005. For your convenience it is offered in a 2-session, late afternoon time slot.

Study Skills Training will cover the following Topics:
Your Study Area
Note taking/Chapter reading
Time Management
Overcoming Procrastination/Motivation
An overview of learning and memory
Your learning style - Left Brain/Right Brain
Mnemonics (memory strategies)
Learning strategies
Objective Test Taking
Test Preparation
Writing tips/internet resources
Test Anxiety
Stress, Anxiety and its Effects
Breathing Techniques/Relaxation Training
Lifestyle Management
