Eugene Mochan, PhD, DO

Dr. Mochan currently serves as the Associate Dean for Primary Care and Continuing Education as well as Director of the Centers for Evidence-Based Practice and Community Outreach. He is responsible for overseeing the Medicine & Society-Epidemiology and Medical Ethics course, as well as directing two statewide nationally recognized community outreach programs, the Area Health Education Center and Bridging the Gaps: Community Health Internship Program. He has received numerous awards for his dedication to community health, including Special Recognition awards from two community non-profit organizations: New Directions for Women and Spruce Adolescent Counseling and Education Center. He is also a recipient of the Linbach award for distinguished teaching He has received over $7 million in funded grants, with the most recent grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) establishing the Center for Evidence-Based Practice at PCOM.

Dr. Mochan has published over 40 articles in many prestigious journals, written several book chapters and has presented more than 100 abstracts at various national and international meetings. He is a research member of the American College of Rheumatology, a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, and serves on the Committee on Education and Evaluation of the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians. He was also recently elected as a Fellow of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia and appointed as a member on the Pennsylvania Department of Health's State Health Improvement Plan Steering Committee.

Dr. Mochan received his PhD in Biochemistry from the State University of New York at Buffalo and served as an NIH-funded postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Pennsylvania. He earned his medical degree at PCOM and completed his postgraduate clinical training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Osteopathic Medicine (UMDNJ-SOM). Prior to coming to PCOM as a Professor of Family Medicine, Associate Dean of Primary Care and Professor/Chairman of Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, he served as Professor and Chairman of UMDNJ-SOM's Department of Family Medicine.

Dr. Mochan has recently published an article on the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis in The State of Arthritis in Pennsylvania, a report of the Pennsylvania Department of Health, and an article on the role of cytokines in chronic inflammatory disease, in Philadelphia: A Tradition of Rheumatology, a report of the Philadelphia Rheumatism Society.
